DICE Material
This teaching material has been developed to support teacher educators to introduce Education for Sustainable Development to student teachers. It contains proposed session outlines, materials needed, explanations of how to do the activities and some background material necessary to run the activities.

Rachel Kavanagh of EcoUNESCO, leads a workshop on Sustainable Development for staff and students at The Church of Ireland College of Education, Rathmines, Dublin

This programme was written by Susan Gallwey. It uses multi-cultural story books to introduce 1st and 2nd class pupils to the many different types of homes around the world. It allows children to explore a wide variety of homes and to examine the influence of climate, family and culture on types of homes.

These pages contain material for teaching about natural disaster from a development education perspective. This material was developed by DICE and Comhlámh

This resource contains a sequence of lesson ideas for teaching about the MDGs including several classroom activities as well as background information for teachers on the goals and a list of useful resources and websites referred to in resource to allow further work on the MDGs.

The material contained in this teaching 'module' is based directly on interviews carried out in Nov 07 with children in Eritrea. While on a study trip to Eritrea, organised by Self Help Development International, one of the DICE Education Officers had an opportunity to meet a number of children of primary age and believed it would be of interest to children in Ireland to learn a little about these young people. She also believed that the images gathered of these children, and their stories, would challenge stereotypes that young people in Ireland often have of children who live in this part of the world. The DICE project hopes that, through sharing these materials on the website, we will contribute to greater understanding and empathy in our 'global village' and provide teachers with some tools to do so. This teaching material was produced by our colleague and friend, Barbara Gill, who died tragically in a cycling accident on April 19th 2007. The material is just one example of her excellent work. She will be sadly missed.

This series of Global Film Study Guides aims at providing information, guidelines and ideas on how to teach films with a global and justice dimension to children. Each of the guides will concentrate on a particular film that is concerned with themes and issues important to our increasingly globalised world. The Guides will follow a similar structure: In addition to the provision of necessary background information about the film and its story, some assistance on how to 'read' films is offered by introducing different film techniques. Each guide will also explore ideas of how to teach film to children and provide guidelines for discussions.
